As a new year approaches, we hear the same advice everywhere: set goals for 2026.
Write them down.
Track your progress.
Push harder than last year.
Planning isn’t wrong. But maybe this year doesn’t need another list of achievements
Maybe 2026 needs something deeper
Instead of asking, “What do I want to accomplish this year?”
What if we asked, “What does God want to give me?”
Not money.
Not status.
Not material success.
Blessing.
What God’s Blessing Really Means
When many people talk about God’s blessing, they think of financial or material gain. A better job. More security. A smoother life.
But God’s blessing is not measured by what we accumulate. It is revealed in who we become.
God blesses us with:
- Peace that steadies us when life feels overwhelming
- Joy that isn’t dependent on circumstances
- Wisdom to make good choices and see clearly
- Understanding of God’s truth when the world feels confusing
These blessings shape our hearts and our character. They equip us to live well, even when life is hard.
God Blesses Us So We Can Bless Others
God never intended His blessings to stop with us.
Throughout Scripture and lived experience, we see this pattern:
God provides to us so that we can provide to others.
We are not meant to walk through this world alone. We are interconnected in God’s plan. Helping one another is how we survive and thrive amid pain and suffering.
Peace received from God becomes peace shared with the anxious. Wisdom given by God becomes guidance for those who feel lost. Hope poured into us becomes hope offered to someone on the edge of despair.
This is what faithful living looks like in a broken world.
Pain, Suffering, and the Invitation to Seek God
Pain can discourage us. It can narrow our focus and convince us we have nothing left to give. That reaction is human and understandable.
But pain can also serve as an invitation.
An invitation to seek God more deeply. To receive what we cannot produce on our own.
To allow Him to meet us in our weakness.
When we do, God often transforms what we receive into something that can help others. Even in suffering, we are not disqualified from being a blessing.
Rejecting Labels That Do Not Align with God’s Word
One of the most damaging effects of suffering comes through labels.
Labels spoken over us.
Labels assigned by others.
Labels we internalize and begin to believe.
At one point in my life, I was labeled a neanderthal. Over time, that word shaped how I saw myself. I came to believe I wasn’t intelligent enough, capable enough, or good enough.
Rejecting that label was a blessing from God.
God showed me that labels which do not align with His truth do not have authority over my life. Learning to identify false labels and replace them with God’s truth brought peace, clarity, and freedom.
That blessing didn’t stop with me.
Now, I work to pass it on by teaching others how to recognize negative labels and replace them with what God says about them. When someone understands that they are not what the world has named them, but who God declares them to be, real healing begins.
Truth becomes a blessing that multiplies.
A Better Question for 2026
Instead of setting goals for 2026, consider asking:
- God, what false labels need to be removed from my life?
- What truths do You want me to walk in this year?
- What blessings are You forming in me that others may need?
This is not passive faith. It is intentional, prayerful living. It draws us closer to God so that we can live more fully present with others.
A Prayer for the New Year
God, as we enter this new year, we come to You not with a list of achievements, but with open hearts. Bless us with what only You can give: peace, joy, wisdom, and understanding of Your truth.
Reveal the labels we have accepted that do not come from You. Give us the courage to reject them and the grace to receive who You say we are. Fill us so that we may pour out. Heal us so that we may help heal others.
Teach us to see how deeply connected we are and use our lives to bless those around us. We trust You with this year. Amen.
Receive From God and Pass It On
The world does not need more self-focused success.
It needs people grounded in God’s peace.
Rooted in His truth.
Willing to love and help one another.
As we step into 2026, may we seek God first.
May we receive His blessings. And may we pass them on faithfully, especially in a hurting world.
That kind of life may not fit neatly into a goal list.
But it is the kind of life God uses to bring real hope and change to this world.
