“Behold, I give you authority (exousia) to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power (dýnamis) of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” — Luke 10:19
There are days when darkness presses close—not always loud, but heavy. It creeps in through anxious thoughts, unrelenting shame, old lies whispered with new urgency.
You may feel crushed beneath a force you can’t name, weary of the silence that follows each cry for help.
If this is your season, know this: you are not powerless.
And you are not alone.
Scripture makes a profound distinction between dýnamis—inherent might, the raw force of ability—and exousia—delegated authority, the legal right to act.
The enemy may wield power. He can stir storms, awaken fear, press sore memories like bruises. But he has no true authority over you.
Christ gives that to you.
Not because of your performance.
Not because you feel strong.
But because you are His.
Jesus speaks in Luke 10:19 with certainty and generosity: “I give you authority…” Not just to resist, but to trample. Not just to endure, but to override. His words are not metaphor. They are covenant. The enemy’s strength may be real—but it bows to the believer who stands in Christ’s authority.
You may feel like you’re barely holding on. That’s okay.
Exousia does not require sensation—it requires position.
You are seated with Christ in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6). His name is your covering. His Word, your sword. His Spirit, your dýnamis—empowering you to rise, to speak, to bind, to bless.
When oppression comes:
- Remember your authority. You are not a victim of circumstance. You are a vessel of Heaven’s decree. The enemy has no right to what Christ has redeemed.
- Exercise it aloud. Speak the Word. Declare Christ’s victory—not as a wish, but as a verdict. The legal rights of hell were canceled at the cross.
- Ask for dýnamis. Acts 1:8 says, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” This is the inner strength to persist, the energy to rise, the boldness to push back when fear demands silence.
You don’t overcome darkness by shouting louder.
You overcome by standing in the light that cannot be extinguished.
You have the right to command peace in your home.
The right to bind oppression in Jesus’ name.
The right to walk unchained—not because you are strong, but because you are under authority.
Let the Spirit fill your weakness with His strength. Let Christ’s authority define your footing. And let the Word be your ground and your weapon.
The enemy may still prowl.
But you no longer need to run.
